Registration open (sort of) for Space Coast Marathon 2014

If you recall, last year I ran my very first marathon at the Space Coast Marathon & Half Marathon Weekend.

There were several reasons for choosing the Space Coast Marathon last year:

  1. I was running the Goofy Challenge in January, and my training plan had me running 23 miles that day, anyway.
  2. Space Coast Marathon had just introduced a new running series, “The Big Bang” Series, wherein you earn extra medals if you run 3 out of 5 and 5 out of 5 races over the course of 5 years.
  3. It was another excuse to go to Florida when the weather was starting to turn wintery in Canada.

In an excellent show of responsiveness to the runners, the Race Director opened up registration a day early (today!) to last year’s participants so those “Endeavouring” (get it? shuttle joke) to meet the “Challenge” (oh yeah) of self-“Discovery” (stretching there) that goes along with earning the extra Medals… “Atlantis. Columbia” (fail). The ability to register early came via an email notice with special code to use and a list to cross-reference to ensure your name was on file as having run last year. Keepin’ it real.

The registration platform (RunSignUp) is easy to use, and you have the ability to register several people at the same time, all on the same invoice which is really convenient. You also get a glimpse of the race shirt when you pick your size, and you have the option of buying a ticket ($25) to the Pasta Dinner (with keynote speaker, Bart Yasso).

How do I know all this? Well, because I registered this morning! That’s right!

This year, however, I will be running the Half Marathon instead of the Full. I’ll be focussing on the Goofy Challenge 2015, and I don’t feel the need to do two marathons in 6 weeks again.

If you’re interested in signing up for the Space Coast Half Marathon, my suggestion would be not to wait. The cap for the half is 3,400 runners, and they’re already more than half-way there with the pre-registration. The full marathon will take a little longer – it’s also a 3,400 runner field, but it’s only at just over 400 runners at this point.

Registration is open to the general public February 15, 9AM Eastern.

Will you be running the Space Coast Marathon or Half Marathon this year?
